The Runner and his trumpet… Former Pasadena CC runner, 60-year-old Nolan Shaheed, never stopped competing while earning a living playing trumpet for Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Eddie Harris, Phil Collins, Anita Baker, Count Basie Orchestra, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Shaheed, featured in a recent Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd,” has held four world master’s records in the indoor and outdoor mile, and is just as thrilled about his world records as he is about playing for world music icons. A three-time USA T&F masters athlete of the year, he once bet and beat the late legendary singer Marvin Gaye to a street race from “tree to tree.”
