World War II changed things…1942-46

 

     The California state high school championships were not held between 1942-45.

No national JC meet was held in 1944. SoCal Finals-1944-were held very early-April 14. Compton JC scored 101½ points to second place Pasadena’s 29½; Compton won 11 events plus the mile relay. Quantity and quality were dramatically affected. Some of the embarrassing winning marks from 1944 SoCals: 220-25.5, 440-52.3, 120yHH-16.5,

2-mile run11:18.6, LJ 20-9, HJ 5-6, Shot put 40-0, PV 11-3; The annual Helms Hall of Fame Athlete of Year awards  to CIF, JC athletes were not given out in 1944. Records of our state JC star performers who served in the war show 4-6 years of service.

Personal: Graham began throwing in 1963 with the help of Olga Connolly,

five-time Olympian (Czechoslovokia/USA); Graham: Ht/Wt: 5-10½ / 195 lbs.
